Konopiště is a historic chateau 40 kms south east of Prague. It is famouse mainly for being the last home of the successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Arch duke Franz Ferdinand d'Este and his Czech wife Sofie Chotkova. His assassination in Sarajevo (1914) heralded the start of the First World War. The chateau belongs to the nation. Trip with guided tour of the chateau and park takes 4 hours. (czech/english)
